I have always found it fascinating to watch other people tatting. But as I don't know anyone who tats, I've had to rely on the internet and the kind people who have posted videos of themselves tatting. So I decided I should do the same and post a short video of me tatting my Jan Stawasz doily. The short clip shows a chain of 7ds followed by a ring of 3ds, join, 3ds, picot, 1ds, picot, 5 ds.
I was strangely very nervous as soon as the camera was rolling and kept making mistakes! But eventually managed to make this clip. Hope it's useful or of interest to other tatters out there.
29 June Update: I've now changed it to a Youtube video, hopefully that's better and viewable by everyone?
I just noticed that you don't turn your entire piece of tatting over when switching between rings and chains. Your movements are so much more economical than mine. Maybe that's part of why you're able to accomplish so much so quickly! Thanks for sharing your video!
That's a good comment you've just made Diane. It is what I have learned as I've gone along, as few movements as possible and as small as possible. So I try to keep my working shuttle thread short so there's not far to go when making the stitches for example.
Also this doily is getting big so I am able to just flip over the small area of the doily I'm working on rather than the whole doily itself.
Hi Bluebird, you should be able to play the video right there within the post. I don't know what you see on your computer, but on mine, I see a box containing the video and I just click on the triangle in the middle and the video starts.
Thank you - darn. I see a space between the two paragraphs where I believe the video must be, but there is nothing there with a link. I will have to try from another computer!
I too thought the motif was a fancy cuff! I was so impressed that you had tatted up a pair of gauntlets for your tatting video premiere!
Loved the video - interesting to see how economically you tat! I think those hooks are what contribute to the smooth flow of your hand movements - such a darn pity they do not like me! Fox : ))
Fox and Michelle, I do like the idea of the "cuff"... maybe it needs to be my next project? I does look pretty having that lace draped over one's arm, doesn't it....
I came back to see if the video was showing, thank you for sharing you doing some tatting, I have never seen anyone tat with the item over their hand, very interesting. Margaret
This 58 second video started me off on tatting. After seeing it I couldn't wait to get a shuttle and some thread. I had always wanted to be able to do tatting but couldn't figure it out from a book. Thank you for sharing your talent and your inspiration!
Oh, you tat extremely fast. I can't tat this way, and always wonder "persons" who can:-)
ReplyDeleteThe doily will be gorgeous.

Wow, beautiful. I thought the doily was a glove/cuff at first.
ReplyDeleteYou should make tutorials!
Why can't I find the link to your video? Really, I'm not computer illiterate!
