Finished the Re-Knit

I'm so pleased I finally finished re-knitting this cardigan\jacket.  The fit is now soooo much better!  I thought I was mad to knit a whole garment in K1P1 (so slow!) in the first place... but to do it twice!! It's considerably smaller this time, with a more fitted, darted, bodice and knitting it with smaller sized needles also gives the jacket more body.  Once again I lined the button bands with ribbon (nice velvet one this time) and it was worth the extra time to do that.  For a close-fitting knit, this gives a nicer finish with no gaping or pulling at the buttonholes.

It probably doesn't look like much in the photos, but it does look nice on.  Again, my favourite part of this pattern is...

the back:

I also managed to finish the second hat (in robin colours) and found a robin pin to go with it.

I'm now getting busy with more things I want to knit, crochet, sew, tat for Christmas gifts.  I need to get my skates on.  How about you, how are your projects coming along?

Best wishes,
Frivole

  2. Ditto to muskaan's comments! I do love that jacket, and if I ever develop a figure that would be flattered by that gorgeous detailing, I will definitely take the time to knit one for myself. ;-)

  3. I'm astounded that you have already re-knit this very unique beautiful cardigan! It's perfect in every way, and would easily take a 'Best of Show' at a Fair!

  5. Great job on both projects! The K1 P1 is slow knitting, but the final result is so worth it! The colors are wonderful too. I do wish you'd been able to show a picture of the cardigan being worn.

    1. Thank you Ruby. Yes, it's slow but it's also been a great exercise in knitting as it's made me re-visit the way I knit. When I made it the first time, I tried all the methods of knitting I could think of in a bid to speed up the K1P1 and eventually settled on a type of "flicking" technique which is quicker than how I use to knit. So it's all helped improve my knitting which is a great thing.

    2. I believe we discussed Continental knitting, and I was surprised you didn't knit that way, as you are such an expert crocheter. The main thing is to be comfortable with whatever method - and you certainly finished this in record time!

    3. Hi Kathy, I have given Continental knitting a good try but I have always found that the purl stitch is so inefficient in Continental. I can see that perhaps the knit stitch may be faster (thought that's still debatable) but for K1P1, I think the way I switch the yarn back and forth without moving my whole hand but just with the finger holding the yarn is really quick and effective and enables really swift work. :-)

  7. The jacket is splendid! Wonderful to have a well fitted jacket that you can treasure. How clever of you to find a robin pin to go with the hat.

As for my homemade tatted Christmas gifts....I have 2 done, 2 in progress(one not going to be able to be finished), and a few more needing to get started and finished. :)

  9. What a beautiful cardi! And that back detail is so stylish! K1P1 may be slow, and not very complex/interesting to do, but boy does it always look very smart and clean. I need to browse now for the first version (hoping to find what pattern it is :D )

    1. Hi Siri, sorry I forgot to say in the blogpost: it's a Debbie Bliss pattern from the Amalfi book (2009). This second version is a bit modified from the original.
