Étoile du Nord

This is the design that came to me last week.  Funny how things happen in twos sometimes...  Last year was the same as I made Bentley just after finishing Snowdrop.

It seems I faffed for ages with Crystal Star but this one popped into my head and the idea translated into the actual tatted star quite well.  Well, it's not exactly as my initial sketch but it fell into place as I started tatting it.

I was still thinking of crystals and beads and how to incorporate them into designs.  Something a bit different if possible.  Instead of just in the centre, I thought I'd have them going up the arms of the star this time.  I made the first one with crystals and then I thought I'd try with pearls (as in the mocha sample).  I rather like the look with pearls for a change.

The white sample was the first one and I was still playing with stitch count and picots so it's less uniform than the mocha one.

I liked Polaris as a name (a suggestion from a few blogposts ago) but I did a quick search and found that my friend Robin has used that name for one of her designs so I think I'm going to go with "Étoile du Nord" if there are no objections to that name.

Best wishes,
Frivole

    1. I can comment if I choose "Reply"- but not otherwise, the box vanishes.
North Star is the name of the school my youngest grandson will attend next year, so I must make this for his Christmas tree!

  8. Beautiful stars. I really like the way the pearls shine in the mocha star, and the colors blend so nicely.

  16. A pretty name for pretty stars! Reading your post, I realize that I've been calling my bezel set tatting pieces Snowdrops without thinking that the name had already been used. They just don't look like snowflakes to me since they are so round. Maybe I can come up with another name. I'll have to think on it!

    1. Thanks to suggestions from blog readers, I have changed the name of my tatted pieces to Ice Drops. I hope this unintentional mistake did not cause any confusion in Tat-land!

    2. Oh no Diane! Please do not change the name on my account! I don't mind at all and the word "snowdrop" doesn't belong to me. :-))

  17. Do believe that this is the loveliest tatted star I have ever seen. I look forward to acquiring the pattern. I always enjoy tatting your patterns, in fact, I just finished your Mirabelle snowflake tonight. I was fun to tatting and will look lovely on my tree with my growing collection of snowflake from your patterns.

  18. Wonderful design! The pearls really stand out, and the crystals would sparkle. Your tatting is always so perfect!

Note to Maureen: On some blogs I find that the comment 'box' is hidden The solution is to click on 'Reply' to the last person's comment, as you did; but after you do that, if you scroll down a bit you'll see the words 'Add Comment', and when you click on that, the normal comment box pops up. At least it does for me.
