Makes me think of ship's wheel in the centre...
A bit closer up...
A lady was selling beautiful sunflowers from her garden in a village nearby. We were just driving past when we saw them at her gate... We took a few stems home. Most were all yellow but we had a stem of sunflowers with red in them like this one. They are very striking. Mind that red background was a bad choice - red is always so hard to photograph!
Best wishes,
Frivole
The doily turned out gorgeous! I'll have to disagree with you on the centre design, though. I think it's what makes the design so interesting. I don't think it looks out of place, and it continues the lines of the outer rounds perfectly. Well, we all like different things, I guess :) And if you do make a new centre design, I'm sure it will look just as lovely as this one!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you disagree! I like to hear other people's comments and points of view. I shall look at it again with fresh eyes in light of what you've said. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! The centre doesn't strike me as incongruous, though I think it must be tricky to tat correctly.
ReplyDeleteDas Deckchen ist wunderschön in dieser Farbe. Auch mir waren die Mitte Stege sehr lang.
ReplyDeleteObwohl passend. Sehr hübsche Sonnenblumen.
I think you have a point about the center but perhaps the incongruity is what makes it so stunning. I love the negative spaces between the ship's wheel and the gorgeous "waves". Overall, quite lovely!
ReplyDeleteYour doily is stunning!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThe negative space works very well - no need to redeisgn!
ReplyDeleteI do like the doily as it is, the open Center works well, but if you think you can work a better Center that still keeps the pattern flowing around then do have a try, but personally I would leave it as it is.
ReplyDeleteI, personally, love the stark contract between the straight chains and the curvy rows. It's almost like a frame for a picture.
ReplyDeleteYour doily is beautiful! I would love to see a different center design, mainly because I have not mastered long, even chains.
ReplyDeleteI think the doily is lovely as it is - but I would love to see you design a new centre, too! Curves and clovers, hmm... ;-)
ReplyDeleteSerwetka jest śliczna, ale ja też poprawiłabym środek. Wygląda jakby był od innego projektu.
ReplyDeleteI really admire the doily and your tatting of it. I struggle with long chains and yours look perfect.
ReplyDeleteHi Frivole!,
ReplyDeleteI see 8 little cats sitting in a ring, or a cathedral's rose window - it has its own charm! However, I think the centre could have an alternative filling too and look totally different, but also very beautiful. I can also see it with a linen centre instead and, made as a strip rather than a ring (and the length tweaked accordingly) I can also see a rather nice flounce or set of cuffs. In short, it's just the kind design that sets my "ideas generator" into motion. I love it!!
All good wishes,
Megan
You know... after making crocheted doilies for years, I can say that I've hated making a beautiful and intense center, just to cover it up with a decorative item or flower vase. So, this center could be a way to get to the part that will 'show' and not spend a lot of time on something that won't! I think the next open space is equal in size and balances it perfectly. You did a lovely job on a lovely doily, beautiful! Tatting Patterns and Designs By Gun Blomqvist, Elwy Persson, right?
ReplyDeleteHi, that's a very good point (about the centre). Yes, correct about the pattern. :-)
DeleteWhile I see your point of difference between stark center and frilly outside...what I saw first was the "spoke" getting larger and larger from the center out. I like it just the way it is :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Sarah. There's been lots of positive comments about the centre so maybe it deserves to stay as is! :-)
