This is Lucky Clover. The beginning of it at any rate.
Now I must tell you that when I first completed this last night, I doubted whether it would turn out right; it was cupping so badly! I'm not sure my photo came out too well, but the motif was really a bowl!
However, after pinning and light pressing, to my surprise, all was resolved.
These are really long chains to keep straight! Chains naturally want to curve...
So you have to loosen your tension just a bit to prevent them from curving too much.
Now on to round two...
Best wishes,
Frivole
That's one of my favorites. You did a lovely job on the center, which, to me, is the hardest part of the whole doily. It will be gorgeous when you're finished.
ReplyDeleteI bought the book when it was first published and made this doily several times with different thicknesses of thread. I've made it again quite recently and still love it. It's a great book. Those long chains are a pain!!!
ReplyDeleteDieses Muster ist sehr schön. Ich habe es mit farbigem Garn geknüpft. Ein sehr schönes Buch.
ReplyDeleteDie Decke wird sehr schön. Ich liebe es
That one will be gorgeous! Lovely work :)
ReplyDeleteYour start looks amazing!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI tried it before also, and had the terrible cupping in the start so I ended up giving up and doing something else, but I may have to try again another time!! :)
Great book; great design. Love this one. Have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteI bought the book for this very same doily, too !
ReplyDeleteGlad you are posting your experience; will help when I do get around to making it.
Love the blue shade & your work is superb !
Looks really wonderful. I did love the "spider" on the table but am glad it worked out!
ReplyDeleteMam tę książkę, a w planach wykonanie tej serwetki. Dobrze że piszesz o problemach z jej wykonaniem. To dla mnie ważna wskazówka. Czekam na kolejne rzędy. Pozdrawiam Małgosia.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm glad if this helps. Wishing you all the best in completing it yourself.
DeleteGood start!
ReplyDeleteI bought this book for the same reason! I have never successfully tatted this doily, although I have started it several times. Those chains are my downfall. I'll be watching your progress with great interest!
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely I look forward to seeing more as you progress
ReplyDeleteTo me it looks like you've got just the right touch in handling those long chains!
ReplyDeleteThese kinds of notes are invaluable in understanding how tatting can look distorted but in fact is right on track! You also have a definite ability to finesse the tension on those chains. The next two rounds are beautifully designed as mirror images and should be very satisfying to tat. Again, I'm glad you are featuring this book.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your message Kathy. The book has lovely designs if sometimes a little difficult to decipher!
DeleteI can't wait to see more progress. The first section is lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done.
ReplyDeleteI loved making this doily it is beautiful and will show off your fine talent!
