Here is another motif from Jan Stawasz's book "Tatting Theory and Patterns". Again, lots of decorative picots. This motif is part of a large table runner which is really beautiful. I might be tempted to make it... though not sure if I'm quite ready for another large project just yet. And I still have the
Burda Butterfly Doily to finish which I've not worked on for a while.
I think I might have to adjust the stitch count just a bit as mine cupped (see image below). Also mine doesn't quite have the same curve in the outside chains that Jan's has. I prefer the look of his. So I would have to play with this a bit before I started making many for a table runner.
Looks like a tiny crown.
Best wishes,
Looks really beautiful!!! :)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I love the color. I can see why you'd want to play with the stitch count. I'd be tempted to steam the motif and see if I could get it to lie flat, but not if I were making a tablecloth or table runner.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane,
DeleteI did steam the piece but like you said, I wouldn't want to have to do it for a large table runner. The individual elements would have to lay flat as tatted - so I agree with you!
Are you using his way of counting your stitches? I could never get the hang of that, myself, so I just do it the regular old way. You have such nice tension, everything looks lovely and even and perfect.
ReplyDeleteHi Jane,
DeleteI have to admit that I don't!! I did try but found it terribly confusing so just stuck with regular tatting in the end. It's true that his lace looks perfect the way he does it but I just loose "the flow"!
Lovely, delicate color for a lovely, delicate motif!
ReplyDeleteIt would be beautiful as a runner, wow!
Jane said it - I just use my regular way of tatting and not Jan's. Are you following his method? I don't think you are by looking closely, but it is difficult to tell (which is why I don't bother!)
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! Lovely shape and perfectly tatted.
One I have done and it nearly drove me mad was his' Window Decoration.' I added beads as well the first time I tatted it - BIG mistake! I found it very difficult to follow this pattern...
But, like all his stuff, it was a beautiful design. I might even have another go at it!
Fox : )
I agree with you Fox, as I said to Jane above, I tried his way but just got confused and didn't know where I was in the pattern.... I shall now go check out his window decoration - as you may know, I like a challenge, so I'll have to see how I find it to tat!
Deletep.s. Did you use a hat pin for this? Your picots are especially perfect! : O
ReplyDeleteThank you for the compliment Fox, but I just used my favourite usual method: eyeballing! :-)
DeleteBeautiful, lovely colour, I thought when I saw the curve you had made a little bowl. That is a lovely design I have put his book on my wish list.
