All Quiet on the Tatting Front?

It's true, I must admit, I have not been tatting very much lately!  What an admission.  I have been momentarily distracted by other pursuits.

One of them is these pretty braids.  They are not difficult and there isn't really much skill in making them but it's fun to play with all the colours.

Variety is the spice of life isn't it?  And I always like to try new things.  I know you are the same, "crafty people" rarely do one thing only!

Best wishes,
Frivole

    1. I don't need any more hobbies either Kathy! Sometimes I tell myself to close my eyes and not look at all the pretty things tempting me!! I never have enough hours as it it! :-))
You can finish them off in different ways: some if have folded and tied with one of the pieces of thread; some I have glued into findings; some I have just knotted.

    1. Hi Cindy, it embroidery floss (I have a box full of these!). Tatting thread would work too but is a bit fine (unless you used size 10 which I don't have much of).

  3. Have a look at the results of the Ring of tatters competition. Very different from precious years!! There is certainly an evolution! Thanks to great and inspiring teachers like you. I have been watching your you-tubes!

    1. Thank you Tally! Had a look, and I like the look of the doily with long, crossed picots.

  4. I love making Kumihimo braids. Once they're set up, it's so simple! I'm still knitting and tatting in between school and play practice... translation... I'm not accomplishing much!

  5. Those look like fun, I think we even have a set of the boards to make them somewhere...I will have to search it out tomorrow!

    1. Sorry for distracting you too Julie! I started with just making my own board with pieces of cardboard but finally gave in and bought a braiding disk (they are not expensive) and it was really worth it. So much easier to make with the proper foam disk, tension is much better. I'm still working out how to get the results I want with starting placement of threads and choice of colours... Wonderful how different they all turn out. A few more ideas I want to try!

  7. Hello Frivole, What's fun is that I was looking at Kimihimo just few minutes ago. But I thought "don't look further, you'll want to do some". I also want to try micro-macramé but as you said there's not enough hours in a day !

  8. Oh, they are pretty! I love the interplay of colors! What will you do with them? How long are they or are they a variety of length. Things that are similar to tatting are very attractive as potential pursuits for me. What fun!

    1. I'm making bracelets with them Michelle. It's much easier than tatting! It's more like braiding.
