I have tatted this edging on more than one occasion. I particularly like it with a variegated thread for the flowers.
Green Doily is a design by Jan Stawasz
This time I did a row of crochet around the handkerchief before whip-stitching the edging to the crochet row.
16.03.17 - Update: Thanks to Kathy, I found the blogpost which showed two other versions of this edging. There is one more which I can't find. So I've made this edging at least four times.
And I just had to share with you the gorgeous blooming trees at the end of our street. I love this time of year when nature bursts into action and I'm particularly fond of these flowering trees. I don't even know what they are... I need to find out.
Happy Spring everyone!
Best wishes,
Frivole
Would love to know in what publication I can find Jan's doily. It's very unusual. Lovely hankie - I have several that need finishing...
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah, it's in his second book called "Tatted Treasures". I really like this little doily and will probably tat it again.
DeleteI have done this also from your pattern, however I attached mine as I went, I think I like yours better = ) Beautiful work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DeleteVery, very beautiful edging!!! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat picture of that tree!
I love your edging! It's similar to round 4 of Renuleks Wiosna 2017, which I'm working on right now. The Jan Stawasz doily is one of my favorites, although I haven't actually tatted it yet. We have no blooming trees yet. In fact, we had snow showers today. I love snow, but I am ready for spring!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I've always loved that edging - especially in those colours.
ReplyDeleteLook like apple blossoms... Let us know! :)
Thank you. Definitely not apple though. I'm certain of that. I'll try to find out.
DeleteSo simple and yet so simply gorgeous. I love how it turned out with the variegated thread!
ReplyDeleteThe edging is a classic and you did a great job on the cornors too 💟 one of these days I want to make that doily of JS. Yours looks great😄
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with you, it's a classic! And no wonder. :-) I'm glad you like the corner, thank you.
DeleteSo pretty. That's a good idea, to crochet onto the hanky and then attach the tatting. That seems to me better than crocheting a 'header' to the tatting and then attaching to the hanky.
ReplyDeleteHi Jane, I use different methods to attach tatting and in fact this time I nearly made a wider crochet edge before attaching the lace but in the end I went with just one round of single crochet and chain one. It made neat, evenly spaced little gaps to slip stitch into.
DeleteBeautiful edging :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful edging, I like the way you used a varigated thread for the flowers, last time I did this edging I used all white, I will try your idea next time.
ReplyDeleteLovely doily, Jan did some lovely designing for doilies
I think your tree is an early ornamental flowering cherry,
Ornamental Cherry? That sounds like it could be right... but I don't remember ever seeing any actual cherries on these trees... do these trees make fruit? Or just flowers?
DeleteAs soon as I saw this edging, I recognized it as the one you beautifully photographed in a very artistic manner on a black background. I searched on your search bar for 'vintage edging' and found the stunning photo on your post of June 7, 2012. I assume this is now the edging on this lovely hanky!
ReplyDeleteAnd in reading the comments on that post, I realized I have the book Tatters Treasure Chest but never noticed this edging on p. 72. Seeing it in color makes a big difference. I now also realize that you wrote out the vintage pattern in your Pattern pages. That page is also artistically photographed and presented!
Hi Kathy, thank you for finding it! I wanted to put a link in the blogpost to previous versions I'd made and had not found it! You are better than me at searching my blog! :-) This is not the same edging though; I think the 2012 version ended up being a doily for my mother-in-law but I can't find a photo of that one though. Here is a link to another blogpost which shows another hanky made with it and the second doily I made for our house.

Thanks for the link to your other projects using this edging! I don't know if I'd have the patience for all those picots, but what a lovely edging it makes. Yes, I now see the 2012 colors are different from the current hanky. I don't think you posted the finished doily for your mother-in-law. You probably do have a photo of it. It's always amazing to browse through your blog. So many gorgeous items which include a variety of needlework.
