Niebach Elegance

Yesterday I was having a look at some of the pictures in the albums at In Tatters (always inspiring) and came upon this design very nicely tatted by Telefonky.

It's an Iris Niebach design which is available free here.

I have to say that I have a book of Iris Niebach's doilies but personally find her diagrams hard to follow.  I tried a couple of times with the doilies, got lost and gave up (Oh no!!  Now I've said that, I will have to tackle one next because I can't bear to give up!!  I can't be beaten by a pattern!).

Anyway, I was struck by the elegance of this motif and had to make it.  I find it graceful.

No.14 of 25-motif challenge

The centre hearts are a little fiddly to make
but overall it's a straightforward design to tat.

Do you like it?

Best wishes,

  2. I absolutely love it! Your stitches look so even. It's a very graceful doily. How big is it? I just downloaded the pattern the other day, but yours really looks nicer than the one on the website. I looks completely different with the blue thread. I love how thread choices can chance a pattern so completely.

    1. Hi Carol,
Sorry forgot to reply to your question: it's just one motif that could be combined to make a doily. I'm afraid I've already given it away so can't measure it but I would say it was about 2.5 to 3in across?

  5. Your stitches are so even and perfect!

I agree, Iris's patterns can be difficult because of all the changes in direction she does. Sometimes she uses arrows to show the direction you should be going, or sometimes she adds letters to indicate the order to do things in, but not always. I always have to study her diagrams closely before I start. In the end, though, I find they are very satisfying to work.

  12. I love it! The hearts are dimpled Yorkies... they're not difficult once you master the technique. Jane Eborall's instructions are very good! (http://www.e.n.e.btinternet.co.uk/DimpleRing.pdf)

    1. Thank you Karen - I did go and look up Jane's instructions and it does make the hearts easier to close up.
