In Progress...

Still limited time spent on tatting by me at the moment.  Here's the start of something which I will reveal in the next post...  it's not quite working out at the moment and I may have to cut and re-tat!

I've also made a start on the third element of the crochet-along blanket I'm making.  Remember when I asked you whether I should go for cotton or wool?  Thanks again for all your replies and votes for one or the other; I did go with wool (well, an acrylic blend) due to cost really.  You need quite a bit of yarn for a blanket and I wanted to keep the cost down.  I like natural fibres for clothing but I don't mind acrylic for blankets.  The first motifs were the plum ones, then the blue ones and now it's this fairly complex flower that needs lots of colour changes!  But it looks rather nice I think.  This is a blanket inspired by Frida Kahlo and this latest motif is called "Bird of Paradise".

Best wishes,
Frivole

  1. I like the complex flower, it will combine well with the plainer hexagons. I look forward to seeing the final result.

  2. The tatted piece looks like a jar lid cover, although I'm pretty sure that's not what you're intending. ;-)

I love the crochet motifs. I like the idea of having a complex motif next to simple ones. If I were still teaching next year, I would ask permission to use this photo when reading our biography of Frida Kahlo to the second and third graders. They love making real-world connections!

  4. Bird of paradise is a perfect name, what gorgeous colors!

I think the tatting is the bottom of a bowl. Love the center, is it your own pattern?

    1. Hi Michelle, no, not my own this one. It's by a lady I recently met. I'm now thinking I may have to redo it as the fit is not right but hopefully I can show you the finished thing soonish... :-)

  5. I think your tatting project looks like a fancy bun cover for your hair, and it looks wonderful, but I can't wait to see exactly what you are tatting!!! :)
Love the look of your new blanket!!! :)

  6. That lovely crochet pattern ALMOST makes my fingers itch for a crochet hook! It's going to be fantastic.

The tatting looks like a very neat curvey something!

  7. Your blanket blocks are coming along nicely. I'm actually following the same CAL. I'm just not crocheting it right now. Too many other projects on the go.

Your tatting looks great, whatever it is!

    1. I know the feeling Jeff, I always seem to have too many projects on the go! :-)
But I thought doing it as a CAL this time with several weeks between instalments, I would hopefully be able to keep up. Just two more of this bird of paradise motif to make.

  9. Your blanket will look lovely in those colours, bird of paradise fits the colours well or even a peacock,
I look forward to seeing your progress.

  10. I do like the color of your tatting and can't tell what it is. If you do have to snip and retat would that make a good video?

Do like the blanket and look forward to seeing it all completed
