Robin & Frauberger

I too was inspired by Robin's version of Tina Frauberger's pattern.  Fox is making a nice version in blue to edge her hanky.  I tried a few repeats of it.  Robin did a great job of scaling it down; the original patterns by Frauberger are quite large and though I like the shapes very much, I'm not overly fond of very large rings and chains and too much open space in tatting.  A little while back, I too scaled down one of her patterns:  a crown edging.

Mine curves a bit though…  so perhaps I need to adjust it a tiny bit more for me although it obviously works well for Robin and for Fox… where did I go wrong?

Tatted in Lizbeth 40, number 137, "Berry Burst"

How's everyone's summer coming along?  Doing anything nice?

After being away for a while,
I just seem to have way too many things on my to-do list!

Best wishes,
Frivole

    1. Not very much really. I only had the Jan Stawasz cap with me and when it worked out too big, I didn't have the heart to cut and start again yet. I spent most of the time away working on the crochet blanket for my friend though I didn't manage to finish it before leaving so it will be stored until my next visit.

    2. Sometimes a break can be really good. I bet your blanket looks wonderful!

    1. Thanks Margaret, it wasn't really a holiday… but everything is fine now and I'm happy to be home.

  6. I like your version of the edging. Wouldn't it look great attached to a piece of round linen?

    1. Great idea Diane. Perhaps I'll just keep going with it curving!

  7. This edging still needs minor tweaking (it curves for me too) and I started to play around with the stitch counts last week before getting busy with other things. You might try decreasing the chain surrounding the onion ring by 1 stitch on each side, and relocating the 2 floating rings as you see fit. Wish I had more time to figure this out, but tatting has been put on the back burner for me :(

    1. I'm glad to hear it Robin. I thought it was me as yours looked straight. I know what you mean about tweaking patterns, it can takes ages sometimes to get it just right. I hope all is well with you and that tatting on the back burner is for a good reason!

    2. Oh no, nothing bad at all. Just doing some freelance (non tatting related). Hoping things balance out and I can add tatting back into my schedule soon!

    3. Oh good. As long as all is well. :-) Yes, it can get difficult to juggle everything and find time for all.

  8. It looks great....about the curve... maybe you have the same problem I have with my tension on chains being tight... It seems I am frequently adding a couple of stitches to the joining chains to get them to 'fit' the rest of the pattern.

    1. Perhaps so Marla. Everybody tats a bit differently so it's not unusual to have to adapt or tweak patterns a little bit to make a pattern fit our particular way of tatting. :-)

  10. Love the colourway !
I, too, did Robin's Frauberger Bookmark in size 40 (Anchor) but it did not curve, luckily.
One of the other reasons why it can curve is the length of joining picots. Simply make them smaller & the curve will neutralize itself.
The only 'tweak' I made to Robin's excellent stitchcount, is the outer chain of the concentric rings. It goes up with 1 extra ds, comes down with the instructed st count. I just felt it looked more visually symmetrical due to that 1 extra ds.
Looking forward to the end product :-)

  11. Yours look lovely, it certainly is a great design as is your crown edging, (one of my favorites). To be honest, my bookmark curved a bit too so I relaxed the tension and blocked the curve out.

    1. Hi Bernice, yes, it would be easy to block it straight. But I might just keep it curved and edge a round or oval piece with it. We'll see.
