More Jan Stawasz... a doily?

I have a couple of long-term projects on the go (one doily and one hanky) but I couldn't help myself and felt compelled to start on this small doily from Jan's new book "Tatted Treasures".  This is the first two rounds.

Not too happy with the look of those small centre rings... partly because I couldn't make up my mind whether to tat this FS/BS or not so some are and some aren't!  I carried on with traditional in the end. But they're still not lying quite right though...  yes, I'm fussing again.

I'm not even sure of my colour choice but I'll continue on with the next round and see what I think of it then.  I'm tatting this in DMC Babylo (size 20) which is softer than Lizbeth but nice to work with.

Best wishes,
Frivole

  2. I like the green, but would be looking forward to see your next colour choice, if you choose to mix and match the colours in this doily.

    1. I carried on with the green Jon. This pattern is for a fairly small doily so I think it will be ok in one colour only (also my choice of colour for the Babylo is very limited... though I have tons of Lizbeth!).

  3. So pretty! After you tat the very first element, FS/BS is just making the next thing with the same front side. If you flipped it (reversed work), do things backward, if not, do them the same way.

For a clover, the second ring's stitch thoughts I have are "scoop, under, over; over, under" for each stitch. If I had a chain after a ring (curved the normal way), the thoughts would be "over, under; scoop, under, over."

    1. Thank you Susie. I've no problem with the principle of FS/BS tatting (though in practice I find counting the stitches more confusing on the back side), it's just that I couldn't make up my mind whether I wanted this one to be "reversible", or prettier on one side!

Do you do all your tatting FS/BS?

Like you describe, I too like to have a rhythm going when I tat.

  4. This is very nice. I think I would have not noticed the center, especially since the rest is so even and lovely. We're still waiting for our copies (Cindy and I) so it's very fun to get the previews.

  6. The green is beautiful.

I would not have not noticed the centre had you not pointed it out. This is something I always have trouble with and softer thread will inevitably make it worse.

  10. Very nice! I love the color, and I've learned to heed my mother's words of wisdom... a blind man on a galloping horse would never see the difference. ;-)
