This little one with 12 points caught my attention so I just played around with it and came up with this:
Now, what I'd like to know is: are these ornaments easy for people to find? Is it worth publishing patterns that require an added "doodad" or should I stick to patterns with just tatting (maybe the occasional bead)? Oh wait, I know, I shall adapt it so you can tat it with or without ornament though it's true in this case, the ornament adds a lot to the prettiness of the design.
So far I'm not having much success finding the "doodads" here in the UK but then I'm not even sure what to Google for! What name should I put in the search box to see if I can find these "components"? I'm sure they must be available here somewhere! I'll keep trying.
I got these off a market stall in our village some time ago. I shall have to check if the lady still comes around next market day.
Oh, and anyone to test-tat the Square Elegance pattern? You must have square ornaments 1.5cm wide (5/8"). I'll send the pattern to the first 2-3 who respond. Thank you!
Best wishes,
This snowflake is stunning! The ornamental centre gives it a subtle sophistication. I also absolutely love the square elegance pattern and would be honored to test tat it for you.
ReplyDeleteAbsolute elegance!!! :)
ReplyDeleteIs is beautiful! Wow.
ReplyDeleteWow, that snowflake is amazing. I think it's a good idea for the pattern to be possible with or without the ornament. I'm not sure I could find such a thing in this part of South Africa.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to test tat it for you, please, please, please. It's so pretty! I've even got a couple of square metal findings I can use. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Marty, I'll send it you with pleasure but I can't find an email for you. Can you please use the "Email Frivole" link at the top of the page to send me your address?
DeleteIf you know a good beading/ jewelry supplies website, look for sections called "Links" and/ or "Embellishments"; these are usually sub-headings under the "Components" section. Also, if they have a search function on their site, you can search for "Filigree" and find all kinds of goodies. You will probably have to wade through pages of items that are not *quite* suitable for tatting, but it's well worth it for the gems you will find. Sorry I can't help you with UK sites, but a couple of terrific US-based ones are www.artbeads.com and www.firemountaingems.com.
ReplyDeleteI did happen to print out the Square Elegance pattern yesterday before that post went away. Are you planning to make it a for-sale pattern? If so, let me know; I'd be happy to pay you for it! In any case, I'll most likely tat it sometime in the next couple of days.
No worries Miranda, it's me dithering and not making up my mind! Then I thought I better have it test-tatted before I offer it so I decided to wait a bit before doing that post. But if you try it, do let me know if you find any mistakes or anything unclear. Thank you for the suggestions about the ornaments - I will look it up.
DeleteVery, very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI've been debating if I hold cut off my ratting from my square doodad so I can try quare elegance too. I also downloaded so let me know if it changes.
ReplyDeleteThis snowflake is breathtakingly lovely. I'm all for tatting with doodads! Maybe you should have a book!
I saw these when I was ordering a couple days ago. I kept wanting to hit "add to cart" but didn't. Now I wish I had.
ReplyDeleteI would like the pattern, both with and without the center.
I have ordered some square tataments (doodads) and they should be here in a couple days. I could test tat then if you still need someone.
I would search for Bead stores or Jewelry findings you should be able to find something then. But I was going to point you to FireMountainGems.com That is where both Diane and I have ordered this type of tatament and I have also ordered things in the past.
Thank you Ladytats and Miranda, I had a look at Mountain Gems but sadly, the shipping is just waaaay to expensive to the UK! I can't believe it costs $34 to send a few doodads to England....
DeleteWhat an elegante snowflake!!
ReplyDelete:) Petra
Can't find them here in Australia - I've been looking! And, like you, I was horrified to see the prioce quoted for postage at the Fire Mountain place.
ReplyDeleteI think that is the most beautiful snowflake I have ever seen! I would definitely purchase a book of doodad tatting patterns.
ReplyDeleteWhen searching for my doodads at Fire Mountain Gems, I looked under findings and components and couldn't find a thing. I finally clicked on links, and that's where I found them.
I agree wholeheartedly with Diane. I would love to tat one of these, but don't have any twelve-pointed doodads. Will give Fire Mountain Gems and Beads a look.., and cross my fingers.
ReplyDeleteThere MUST be an affordable source somewhere on this rock we call a planet.
This snowflake is breathtaking! Just fabulous! I'm amazed you had this gorgeous twelve-sided element in your stash! Most seem to be eight-sided. I also was astounded to see the shipping costs when I checked out some sites the other day! I haven't a clue as to where Irma from Chile found the elements that she sent to Jane!
ReplyDeleteYou definitely have a great talent for designing!
Lovely snowflake, I love the doodad, you definitely have a way with designing. I am trying to find where I can get some, I was going to try to see if I can get some from the new bead shop in Weston super mare, or on line, Like you it's what they are called, I wondered if they come under findings.
ReplyDeleteMargaret
I forgot ( hubby is talking on and on). I would offer to test tat but I don't have any doodads.

Nagyon szép:-)
ReplyDeleteBravo!! Vraiment très joli tout comme le carré!! J'adore mais nous n'avons pas de choix aussi important pour les estampes par chez nous...
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty snowflake. It the pattern printed somewhere? I would love to try it.
ReplyDeleteThank you
Hi Linda, thank you for your comment. This pattern is now available in my Etsy shop (link available in side bar). You can purchase just the pattern (if you have the findings) or I also sell a printed version which I will post with some ornaments.
DeleteVery Pretty.
