Couture Champêtre

Following on from my previous post... another lovely thing about vintage sewing machines, manually powered, is that you can easily take them outside to do your sewing on a beautiful sunny day!

I love that.

This one is my 1937 Singer 27.
I bought it for peanuts and it's in such beautiful condition!
The decals are nearly pristine and it sews beautifully.

To go with a nice vintage machine,
it's great to also have some vintage accessories.

I found a vintage buttonholer attachment which does a fantastic job.

Look at that neat buttonhole!

Thanks for telling me about your own vintage machines in the previous post.  I'm in the process of finding a couple of replacement parts for my Frister & Rossmann and I think we're so lucky to have internet nowadays to be able to find specialised things like vintage sewing machine parts.

Happy sewing everyone!

Best wishes,
Frivole

  1. The top one is similar to mine except mine had a deeper box underneath. I had a buttonhole attachment too. Wonderful to be free of the necessity of being next to a plug!

    1. Hi Jane, you say you "had"? Do you not have it anymore? I have to say I'm impressed by the quality and neatness of the buttonholes produced by the vintage attachment!

    1. Thank you Margaret, I agree with you, worth their weight, especially since I paid so little for this one! It seemed nobody else wanted it at the time I purchased it and I got it for a fiver! Amazing isn't it? :-)

  5. The idea of sewing outside is very appealing. However, I am highly intolerant of birds, bugs, and sun, so I think I'll sew in my sun room and watch nature from behind the safety of screens! ;-)

    1. Hi Diane, I really like having the sights and sounds of nature all around me as I work, but I'm sure watching it from your sun room is lovely too. :-)
