Aeris Variation

Whilst looking at my new pattern and the snowflake photo, I decided that maybe the "arms" needed to be a  bit fuller with extra picots to look more like the real snowflake.  So I made a new version without the JKs but with more picots instead.  And this is what it looks like:

And here's the photo of the real snowflake again, for comparison:

And then I decided to pin all the picots before pressing to make it look
more pointy and sharp, more like a real snowflake
and this is what it looks like:

... but I think I prefer the softer shape of the first (unpinned picots)

So there you have it:  Aeris and its variation.  I will put both in the pattern and people can choose which one to tat!

As I've done in the past, I'll have a draw for free patterns (three chances to win!) so please leave a comment if you'd like to be entered.  I'll hold the draw on Sunday (18 October).

Best wishes,
Frivole

P.S.  Thank you very much for your comments, I always love receiving them but I won't answer in this blogpost to make it easier to count them for the draw!

  3. Oh, how lovely! Your designs are beautiful...and Aeris is the prettiest tatted snowflake I've ever seen...(I like the original with the Josephine Knots the best)...it would be a thrill to have the pattern and make some for my home and for my mother's. Thanks so very much for the opportunity - Marilyn :)

  8. Josephine knots or picots, I think I'll tat them both! It does seem like it's time to start tatting snowflakes!

  13. Hello!
Your Aeris snowflake is one of my favorites by far! I especially like how in the pinned picot version picture the inner star points seem to all be curved in the same direction. Almost as if you planned for it to look like a pinwheel.

  15. Love the snowflakes, they are gorgeous. I prefer the unpinned look, also. I especially like the colored ones. They still look 'snowy,' but the color gives them a softer, fluffy look somehow.

  19. I LOVE them all! How can someone choose? I have an ongoing project which has me tatting snowflakes for my grandchildren so that when they get married they will have a photo box filled with snowflakes for their Christmas trees. I have designed a snowflake that is very easy to make and I have been using threads that belonged to family members so they are even more special. Imagine a snowflake that is made from the thread from 3 generations of their grandmothers. I love to tat!

  21. I think you have to pick the pattern to match the person you give it to. The pointier one looks more frosty to me.

  25. Your new snowflake is lovely Joelle - well done. I am in the Christmas mood, too, and am trying to come up with a pattern to cover a large bauble (I accidentally bought the wrong size last year). I want to include beads and bugle beads, but am struggling, as I'm not a natural designer like you! Will email you this week - it's been ages!
