On a (Knitting) Roll!

This beautiful Fair Isle jacket has been a WIP for a while now (I don't dare admit how long!) and I know you've seen it on a couple of occasions but every time I get it out again, I still appreciate the lovely mix of colours and how much pleasure I get from knitting this wonderful pattern (Flora Jacket by Alice Starmore).

So, after finishing my son's green jumper, I thought I'd make a bit of progress on my cardigan and finished knitting the body (I was about 2/3 of the way there).  I like the three-needle bind-off I used on the shoulders, makes for a very tidy finish.

I started by cutting open the front and back neck steeks and
knitting the collar (in progress on photo below)
You can also see the front and one sleeve steek yet to be cut.

Here's the collar completed.

And now I'm currently working on the left front band

You can see the reverse side on photo above.
The colour changes are all made within the front steek
so that when you cut your work open, all the loose yarn ends
can be cut away and there are no ends to sew in.

And just one last photo because I like the mix of colours so much.
Makes me happy just looking at it!

It would be nice if I could keep going on this and make it a WIP no longer!  I'm looking forward to wearing it.

Best wishes,
Frivole

  1. Darn you. Now you've made me want to go back to knitting again!!! It really is gorgeous and it doesn't deserve to be a WIP any longer.

    2. Well I can gently 'nag' you from time to time if you like so that you finish it!!! I've done some knitting over the winter (just gloves and socks) but they've never made it onto the blog!!!! Also crocheted a blanket/throw last year which again never made it there!!!!

  2. Socks? Gloves? You should show them on your blog! I'd like to see your knitting. :-)
A crocheted blanket too? I've really enjoyed making mine and I'm sure will make more in the future.
Yes, a bit of nagging Jane, hopefully that will do the trick! :-)

  5. Love, love, love... your craftsmanship is superb. I mean, just look at the inside. It's like an embroidered textile. I bet if you wear it inside-out one day people will comment about how lovely it is and won't even twig that it's knitted or inside-out.

  9. Gorgeous! I love the pattern and the colors. I pulled out my knitting needles last night, but for something much more mundane... dishcloths!

  10. So pleased you are finishing this magnificent cardigan, and you're certainly making great progress! It's always a joy just to look at photos of her designs. As you know I had the privilege of meeting Alice twice and I was rather giddy at the workshops - couldn't keep my mind on what I was knitting because I couldn't believe she was there!

I always use the three-needle bind-off seam at shoulders, but use a crochet hook rather than the third needle, as it makes it even easier. Even on normal bind-offs I use a crochet hook, and I usually crochet my seams together. However steeking is still only a theory in my head!

A lot of us seem to be knitting these days! I just finished the easiest vest on the planet and posted to my blog. The.variegated yarn happened to match my pendant made with LIzbeth thread!

  11. OMG, this is true knitting splendour ! Love the colours, pattern, & your exquisite knitting.
Now I have to look up more knitting techniques , sigh ! - steeking & 3-needle bind off. I'm so inspired by your cardigan here, but it's a long way off to winters :-D
