Wrought Iron

I'm still beavering away at the doily but that doesn't give me much to blog about, does it!  So I thought I would take a little break tonight to make something else for a change.  I've just participated in the Bookmark Exchange at In Tatters and received a lovely bookmark from Tatting Margaret (a click on the link will take you to a photo of the bookmark) - Thank you Margaret!  It was one of Mary Konior's design which I had not really noticed before though I have the book.  I think it has a very interesting shape so, inspired by Margaret's, I decided to make it.

I chose this colourway (Lizbeth "Autumn Spice"), as I thought it could be a very old, very rusty Wrought Iron, with moss growing on it...  That's my take on it anyway!

I made a mistake near the beginning (second trefoil on the left has one picot too many) so the join to the next small ring is at the wrong angle and those "onion rings" are quite hard to make really even but overall I'm pleased with the result and still think it's an interesting design which I might well re-do.  Perhaps in a nice dark steely blue?  Oh no, I forgot, I'm trying to stay away from the blues for a change!

Best wishes,

  5. Fabulous color choice and such a great pattern! I may have to try it in Copper Patina HDT since you have put me in mind of metallics with your seductive title.

Your Wrought Iron cross turned out great!

P.S. "beavering away" - love that phrasing!

  6. Hi,
I love your colour looks lovely in that colourway.
I am glad you love my bookmark, I have since tatted four more, one blue, one blue and white, and another in green/yellow/white in Turkish thread, now my grand daughter wants one in pink she has even choosen the thread and beads. I am hooked on this pattern now, like you I have had the book for over 30 years and its the first time I have done this pattern now I have done several within a fortnight.
I love your phrase "beavering away" too.

  7. It's very pretty in that color!! I normally wouldn't pick out anything described as "autumn", but looking at your bookmark makes me consider getting a ball of that color :) It works really nice.
Not that I'm trying to corrupt you, but I do LOVE blues.... =)

  8. Thank you very much everyone!
IsDihara, "Copper Patina" sounds great. I shall go have a little search to see what it looks like - is it one of Yarnplayer's?
Randa, like you, I love blues! It's just that sometimes I feel like I have to make an effort to choose something else, just for a change!

  9. Frivole, I apologize for contacting you this way, but I wasn't sure how else to go about this. I'm not sure if the message I sent got through to you, but the hanky you chose was taken. I still have the Deep Purple, Bright Green, and one of the Mother hankies. I'm letting each of the ladies who didn't get a hanky know what is left. Again, first come, first serve. Thanks for participating!
