Napoleon in Formation

Here is a completed block of four Napoleons.

I do like it.  But I think maybe it would be even more interesting if the outer corners were slightly different so that when they all join (as in the center), they would create a different motif.  Like some of the Mary Konior patterns do.

Still, it's a very nice medallion and it's fairly quick to tat so you could tackle a larger piece using it.

Now I must work a bit more on those handkerchief edgings!

Best wishes,

  1. It is very pretty, and I have it on my to-do list, which is growing by the day!

  2. Thanks Diane! I know what you mean... " never enough hours in a day" is the saying that applies to me ALL the time!

  3. I love how it looks! I think I especially like that the centers form the same as the motifs themselves. A different kind of optical illusion?

    I've got to try this!

  4. I wanted to try this formation, but I don't have to any more, because you did it XD I think it's good, if you want to make something bigger (a huge doily for example). In this arrangement it looks like an unfinished doily, and -you are right - it would be better with a different motif in the middle.
But I wonder why did you wrote it's quick. For me it takes more than 1 hour to tat only one motif. Am I really slow?

  5. Hi Orsi,
Yes, it would probably need a border to make it look more finished in this kind of formation. You got me curious now, I shall have to time how long it takes me to make one! It just seemed not too bad to me compared to some designs which are more "fussy" to work.

  6. I'm with Michelle on this one - I particularly like the fact that the meeting corners are the same as the centre of the motifs.

I must say, I also like a lot the new motifs you created and how in those the corners make a *different* motif when joined! yay for inspiration! (and following through!)

  7. Thanks for your comment Creativa. Yes, I know what I said about making the corners different but there IS something interesting in the fact that where they meet, though the motif is the same, it has a different orientation, and I think that adds interest.

    1. Hello Anna, yes you're right, I'm afraid the link is not on her blog anymore. I have written to Orsi to see if her pattern is available and I'll write another reply here if I do hear from her.
